YELLOW BRICK ROAD MUSIC

It’s fall favorites time again. Time for me to remind you and myself that we’re more than what we do for a living. So without further delay. Here are my favorites of the fall season, in no particular order.

ENTERTAINMENT

  • Eccleston
    • I’ve been complaining a lot in my Insta Stories that this was the second year in a row I missed Dragon Con. Despite not being there in person, I was able to stream all of that nerdy goodness. The best by far, was the panel with Christopher Eccleston, the ninth doctor, my absolute favorite. He was honest, funny, heartfelt, and gave me hope that he’ll return to Dragon Con again someday. You can watch his panel HERE.
  • Only Murders in the Building
    • You can find this show on Hulu, and it’s fantastic! It stars Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short, along with a carousel of other well-known faces. It’s a mystery-comedy, with some surprisingly touching moments. It’s been the bright spot in otherwise dull Tuesdays.
  • Ted Lasso
    • It seems everyone has been talking about Ted Lasso, and for good reason. Ted gives off Mr. Rogers vibes, if Mr. Rogers told lots of folksy tales and was a bit much at times (in a good way). If you want a feel-good show that mirrors what it’s like to be a teacher, this is it.

FOOD

  • Tazo Passion Iced Tea
    • I prefer coffee over tea. However, since going caffeine-free a few years ago, I’ve found some teas that I love, and this is one of them. I picked up the pre-bottled kind in the store on an impulse, and it’s delicious.
  • KIND frozen dark chocolate peanut butter bars
    • I’m both happy and sad that I’ve discovered these bars. Happy because they’re delicious. Sad because I can’t eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Pirucream
    • These are rolled wafers filled with chocolate and hazelnut. You can’t go wrong with that combination. These are a Venezuelan treat, which you’ll probably find in your grocery store’s international section.

MUSIC EDUCATION

  • Using TikTok in the General Music Classroom: The Chopping Dance
    • If you’re new to the world of TikTok (or even if you’re not), this is the perfect song/trend to use in your classroom. In this post, I share the notation and body percussion for the song, as well as a free printable your students can use to learn the dance.
  • Tideo: socially distant movement activity
    • You can always count on Elizabeth for great ideas, and this one is no exception. She shares a fun body percussion game that you can use with Tideo. She even includes a video so you can see exactly how she scaffolds the activity.
  • Favorite Dollar Tree Finds for the Music Room
    • In this post, my friend Jane shares several awesome ideas that you can implement in your room for just a few bucks. Best of all, she’s generously shared free four voice labels that you can use immediately with your Dollar Tree dice!
