About

I know what it’s like to plan a year’s worth of lessons with no curriculum, no scope and sequence, and no time to build one from scratch, because that was my first year teaching. I stepped into a music program with nothing but a copy of the state standards and had to build everything myself.

That experience is exactly why Yellow Brick Road Music exists. Every resource I make starts with the same vision: something a music teacher needed and couldn’t find, made the way I wish it had existed for me. I came into teaching with a Bachelor’s in Music Education (K-12 general, vocal, and instrumental) already in hand, and went on to earn a Master’s in curriculum and instruction while I was in the classroom. I taught K-4 general music and 7-12 instrumental music before eventually leaving to do this full time. My work has appeared in NAfME’s Teaching Music magazine and blog, and I’m a regular presenter at The Music Crew’s annual conference, a nonprofit I co-founded to support PreK-8 music educators.

Creating resources full time suits my introverted nature perfectly, and I mean that as good news for you: I do my best thinking in a quiet home office, undistracted, which means when you send me a question or a review, you’re getting my full attention. I read and respond to every single email myself, usually within a day or two.

The best part of my job is hearing from teachers whose students are excited to play games I’ve created, who have built homeschool lessons using my Basics Series, or who’ve sparked curiosity in composers with my music history resources. It lets me do exactly what you’re doing every day: making a meaningful difference in kids’ lives through music.

Meanwhile, in my personal life

When I’m not working, I’m usually spending time with my husband, Brandon. We love to travel, watch anime and K-dramas, and are owned by two cats, Dr. Watson and Captain Hastings, who feel that our working from home really cuts into their playtime. Their antics are on Instagram HERE.

Musically, I’m a jack of all trades. I sing, play the clarinet, and dabble on any instrument I can get my hands on. I love meeting new friends who share my interests in Dr. Who, human rights, Star Trek, FOOD, anime, cats, K-dramas, and more.

If you’ve read this far, say hi, I’d love to hear from you! Email me any time.
