These editable assessments give you a quick, simple way to check what your elementary music students know. Each one is a half page in black and white, so you can print two to a page and save ink and paper. They cover tempo, timbre, rhythm, dynamics, form, and pitch.

Concepts assessed

  • Timbre: vocal, instrumental, and environmental sounds; pitched and unpitched instruments; instrument families
  • Tempo: fast and slow; steady beat and no steady beat; largo, andante, allegro, presto
  • Form: same and different; AB and ABA; AB and rondo; AB, ABA, and rondo
  • Dynamics: loud and soft; piano and forte; p, mp, mf, f; crescendo and decrescendo
  • Pitch: high and low; melodic direction; melodic patterns; so-mi, so-mi-la, and do-re-mi
  • Rhythm: whole, half, dotted half, and quarter notes; quarter rest; barred eighths; barred sixteenths; two sixteenths and an eighth; an eighth and two sixteenths; triplets
