This listening lesson helps students in grades Kβ2 read quarter notes, barred eighth notes, and quarter rests using the theme from the second movement of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony. Students move from iconic to stick notation, find the rhythm in the music, play the Music Freeze Game, and compose their own 8-beat rhythm patterns.
This purchase is for one teacher to use with their own students. Each teacher needs their own copy. See the full terms of sale β

I was amazed at how my kids picked up the rhythms in the piece after we did the quarter note and eighth note rhythms. My kids already knew how to apply rests, but it would be an easy tool for introducing rests as well. I would highly recommend the whole set! Thanks π

Thank you so much for the meaningful feedback. I truly appreciate it! I did this lesson with my students last year, and I too was also amazed by how they applied the rhythms they knew to the music of Beethoven. Thanks!

I’m sorry Jenny. I’ve done the same thing before and it’s not a fun feeling π Would it help in the future if I mentioned the bundle at the top of the description? If so, I can go through and make that change. Let me know what you think π My email is: theylbrickroad@gmail.com

Can’t wait to use this! The monsters are adorable, such creativity to see them and connect them to a rhythmic lesson. What a wonderful way to share Beethoven with young listeners.
Yellow Brick Road Music –
My students love this lesson and are so proud of themselves when they identify the rhythms in the music. They recognize that he used simple rhythm patterns in his music just as they do, which helps to make his music (and other music like his) more accessible to them:)

Can’t wait to use this! Thank you π

My students have loved it. I’ve also had them watch the video of the symphony that includes the graphical score, which they say looks like a “video game” π They love the fact that they can recognize the rhythms Beethoven uses.
