These composing cards give students a simple way to write their own melodies with solfège. Students arrange single pitches or four-pitch patterns into a composition, then sing it or play it. Each syllable is color-coded to match colored bells and tubes.

What’s included

  • Four-pitch pattern cards in 14 patterns using do, re, mi, so, and la, plus a question mark card
  • Single-syllable cards for do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, and high do
  • Directions and ideas for use, including review, assessment, matching games, partner work, melodic dictation, composition, and playing on instruments

    This is one of my favorite TPT Resources. I love that I can use these before introducing how the notes fit on the staff. I’ve found that by adding this step, my students have a better understanding when we move on to composing and dictating on a 2 or 3 line staff!
