This guided composition activity helps students in grades K–2 write their first music with so and mi. Students warm up with vocal exploration, sing four-beat so-mi patterns, and then use colored cards to compose and perform their own short pieces.

      Thanks. I usually save this type of composing for the end of the year, after they’ve become confident singing four-beat Solfa patterns. The best part is when they begin to make connections to all the songs they know that have so/mi patterns 🙂
